The potter’s wheel is one of the oldest inventions of man. He is already more than seven thousand years old! The ancient Egyptians even believed that the god Khnum fashioned the first people precisely on the potter's wheel. In the beginning, the circles were very simple. A disc was put on a large stick, and a lump of clay was placed on the disc. With his left hand, the potter rotated this disk, and with his right hand he gave the clay the desired shape.
Sculpting with one hand was not very convenient. Therefore, after some time, a device consisting of two disks appeared. So that they began to rotate, the potter pushed the lower disc with his foot. And his hands were free! A similar potter’s wheel is used even now if you need to make a particularly beautiful and elegant dish.
